When to use this calculator
Use this when heat transfer vinyl is the graphic. Roll price is converted into the vinyl used by the design (width × height versus roll length × roll width), then weeding time, press time, the blank and a margin after fees produce a selling price.
This is not a DTF or sublimation quote. If you buy printed transfers, use the t-shirt or DTF calculators and leave vinyl at zero there.
How this calculator works
How we calculate heat transfer vinyl cost
- Roll area = roll length (ft) × 12 × roll width (in)
- Design area = design width × design height
- Vinyl cost = roll price × (design area / roll area)
- Labor = (weeding + press minutes) × hourly rate
- Each = blank + vinyl + labor + electricity + waste + packaging
- Price from target margin after fees
Example
Example: a 10×8 in name on a $4.25 tee
$12 for a 15 ft × 12 in roll. Design uses 80 sq in of 2,160 sq in on the roll, so vinyl is about $0.44. Six minutes weeding plus 1.5 minutes press at $16/hr, 8% waste, $0.80 bag, 50% margin, 6.5% fees.
- Vinyl from the roll is usually cheap versus the blank and weeding time.
- A dense weeded design costs more in minutes than in film.
How much should I charge?
Charge the recommended shirt price. Multi-color HTV is extra weeding and extra vinyl layers — raise minutes and count each color’s area.
Pricing tips
- Measure the bounding box you cut, including letters with space between.
- Remnants that cannot cover the next job belong in waste, not as free vinyl.
