How 3D print pricing works

Filament cost is spool price times grams used divided by spool weight. A $25 kilogram spool and a 120 g print is $3.00 of plastic before anything else.

Electricity is printer watts divided by 1000, times print hours, times your kWh rate. Machine wear is easiest to capture as an hourly depreciation rate.

Failed prints belong in the price. A failure rate of 8% means successful prints must carry that extra material, time and power.

If you sell prints, add labor for setup, part removal, support cleanup and packaging, then choose a margin that still works after marketplace fees.

FAQ

How do I calculate 3D printing cost?

Add filament, electricity, machine time, labor, waste and packaging. The 3D Printing Cost Calculator lists each line so you can see which input moves the total.

How much should I charge for a 3D print?

Charge enough to cover production cost and your target profit after fees. Many sellers underprice by ignoring machine time and cleanup labor.
