The recommended price then applies your target margin after marketplace fees. For custom one-offs, set jobs from design to 1 so setup is not hidden.
How this calculator works
How we calculate this
- Material = sheet cost × (used area / sheet area)
- Electricity = (watts / 1000) × hours × kWh
- Machine = hours × machine hourly
- Setup each = design cost / jobs from that design
- Total = material + electricity + machine + labor + setup + waste + packaging
- Price = cost / (1 − margin − fee %) when valid
Example
Example: a 6×8 in cut from a 12×24 in sheet
$24 sheet, 48 / 288 of the sheet = $4.00 material. 18 minutes at 40 W, $0.15/kWh, $4/hr machine, 10 minutes labor at $22, $15 design across 10 jobs, 6% waste, $1.50 packaging, 50% margin, 6.5% fees.
- Material is $4.00, not $24, if leftovers are usable.
- Setup is $1.50 when spread across 10 pieces.
- Fees apply to the selling price, so the quote is higher than cost / (1 − margin) alone if you forget fees.
How much should I charge?
Charge the recommended price. For custom one-offs, set jobs from design to 1. Repeat orders should drop setup each — change the jobs field.
Pricing tips
- If offcuts are trash, put them in waste or use the full sheet cost.
- Slow engraves should show more runtime minutes.
- Rush jobs: increase machine hourly or labor.
Common mistakes
- Charging every keychain as if it used a whole sheet.
- Giving away file cleanup on a one-off name cut.
- Using hobby-machine time as $0 because the laser “already exists.”
