What shops actually charge
For one-off retail, a name or small logo on a hat you supply often totals $24–$40. Embroidery-only on a customer-supplied cap is commonly $10–$18 plus a digitizing or setup fee if the file is new.

Why hats are not shirts
Cap frames, backing choice and a curved sew field add minutes even when the stitch count looks small. A 4,000-stitch name can still be a $12 minimum because the machine setup does not care that the design is tiny.
Unstructured floppy hats and mesh truckers misbehave. Price a specialty surcharge or refuse the blank.
Stitch rate still matters
Once the file exists, (stitches ÷ 1,000) × your rate is the production line. Hats often use a higher effective rate or a minimum because hooping dominates small counts.
