How Much to Charge for a Laser Engraved Cutting Board
A $30 bamboo board can be a healthy job or a loss. The blank is obvious. File setup, test burns and food-safe oil are what people forget.
When you want a number for your own job, use the Laser engraving pricing calculator.
Retail ranges that show up in real shops
Personalized boards as gifts cluster in the $25–$75 band. Walnut, end-grain and photo engraving sit higher because the blank and the reject rate both go up.
| Board | Blank you pay | Typical retail | Main cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small bamboo, name or date | $4–$8 | $25–$35 | Setup + listing, not laser minutes |
| Maple, monogram + date | $12–$22 | $45–$65 | Wood + proofing |
| Walnut / detailed logo | $22–$40 | $65–$95 | Test burns, darker wood |
| Handwriting or photo raster | $12–$30 | $70–$120 | Trace time and rejects |

Customer-supplied boards
Charge an engraving fee, not “cheap because they brought wood.” Unknown species, oil finish and warping raise the chance of a bad burn. A $20–$45 engraving fee plus a written no-guarantee on their blank is normal.
When per-letter pricing helps
Simple name boards can be quoted from letter count as a sanity check, then compared to a full job quote so a long family name does not sneak through at a flat $25.
