How Much Should I Charge for Handmade Products?
Work forward from cost and a profit target instead of copying the cheapest listing in your category.
A usable default
Many makers do well starting with a 50% profit margin on total cost after a wholesale check: wholesale about 2× cost, retail about 4× cost if you sell both ways. That is a starting structure, not a law.
If you only sell direct, you may not need a wholesale multiplier, but you still need a margin that pays you after fees. Run the same product through the Handmade Product Pricing Calculator with your fee rates.
When the “right” price feels too high
If the calculator price is far above the market, the problem may be the design (too much labor), the materials, or the channel — not the math. You can simplify the product, raise efficiency, or sell a version with less handwork.
Undercutting to match a factory-made lookalike usually means you are donating hours. Price the work you actually do, then decide if that product is worth making.
