How this calculator works
How we calculate this
- If width + extra ≤ fabric width: yards = (length + extra) / 36
- Else panels = ceil((width + extra) / fabric width), yards = panels × (length + extra) / 36
- Cost = yards × price per yard
Example
Example: 60×80 in throw, 42 in fabric, $12.50/yd
With 8 in extra, the top is wider than 42 in, so backing-style panel math increases yardage versus a single width.

Yardage cost is only fabric. Add batting, thread, quilting labor and binding using other tools and the handmade calculator.
