Effective price per 1,000 stitches

$2.33

Focuses on stitch math: cost of the stitch line, and — if you enter a selling price — effective price per 1,000 stitches and per stitch.

How this calculator works

How we calculate this

  1. Stitch cost = (count / 1,000) × rate
  2. Effective /1,000 = selling price / (count / 1,000)
  3. Effective per stitch = selling price / count

Example

Example: 12,000 stitches sold at $28

Stitch rate $1.25/1k is $15 of stitch cost. If the shirt sells at $28, effective pay is $28 / 12 = $2.33 per 1,000 stitches.

  • The effective rate includes everything the customer paid, not only the stitch line.
  • Use it to compare a hat job and a jacket job.

How much should I charge?

If effective per 1,000 is below your shop target, the selling price is too low for that stitch count.

Pricing tips

  • Record stitch counts from the machine, not from the customer’s guess.
  • Compare satin-heavy vs running-stitch designs — time is not identical at the same count.

Common mistakes

  • Dividing by 1,000 incorrectly (using 12 stitches instead of 12,000).
  • Comparing your effective rate to someone else’s stitch-only rate.

FAQ

How do I calculate price per 1,000 stitches?

For quoting: (stitches / 1,000) × your rate. For analysis: selling price / (stitches / 1,000). This page shows both.
